Billie Eilish collaborates with childhood idol Justin Bieber in a remix of her hit single "Bad Guy." Listen above.
The 17-year-old singer has become one of this year's breakthrough stars, but has already been in the spotlight since her single "Ocean Eyes" was released in 2015 when she was just 13 — much like Bieber, who was discovered on YouTube at that same age. Since being released with the album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? earlier this year, the original version of "Bad Guy" is Eilish's top-streamed track on Spotify and YouTube, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on June 8. This collaboration was released just over a month later, on July 11.
Though Eilish's often dark and stormy trap-style music is nothing like the Bieber songs she would have listened to growing up, she has never been ashamed to admit that she was a Belieber. You can see how emotional she was when she first met him at Coachella this year, and the caption on her Instagram post about the release of the remix, "OMGFFFFGGG ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE MAN," showed the all-caps enthusiasm of a superfan. The track's official cover image proves her longtime fandom, showing her younger self in a glittery dress with Bieber posters covering her bedroom wall.
In this version of "Bad Guy," Justin Bieber sings a new original verse and adds some vocal ad-libs. His verse is more autotuned than Eilish's vocals typically are, though her music is no stranger to digital sound effects so the overall vibe is not far off base. It is clear that this is special for Billie, collaborating with one of her childhood heroes who also happens to be one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
Billie Eilish's music is available on Amazon and other major streaming services.
