On October 27th, Run The Jewels are releasing the eagerly anticipated Run The Jewels 2, but they may have bitten off more than they could chew with the announcement of their hilarious deluxe packages. In addition to the bevy of normal deluxe editions, RTJ announced a number of completely insane joke packages with increasingly exorbitant prices.
Among the packages meant to be a joke, the duo included the "Meow The Jewels" package, a $40,000 deluxe edition described thusly:
Run The Jewels will re-record RTJ2 using nothing but cat sounds for music. You are free to profit from this album in any way you see fit up to 100k in net global profit or 3 years (whichever comes first).
While the fine print exempted them from having to fulfill their obligations to the purchasers of the packages above $35,000, some enterprising youngsters launched a Kickstarter for Meow The Jewels anyway. Killer Mike and El-P since agreed to record the album if it receives funding, and as of this posting, the Kickstarter has received $55,335 of its stated $45,100 goal.
All this boils down to the amazing news that Meow The Jewels is really happening. Mass Appeal released a trailer for the project, which you can watch above. With 11 days left on the crowdfunding campaign, the list of contributing producers is growing. Cat-beatmakers so far include Just Blaze, The Alchemist, Geoff Barrow, Skywlkr, Zola Jesus, Nick Rook, Baauer, Prince Paul, Dan The Automator, Boots, and tier contributor Solidified Sun.
The estimated release date of the new project is December of this year. Pledge on the Kickstarter page to get the album, and to pre-order any of the non-cat editions of RTJ2, head to the official website.
