Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks finished up their North American tour last month at the Neptune in Seattle. However, before they left Washington they stopped by KEXP to play four songs from their new record Wig Out at Jagbags and talk with host Stevie Zoom about everything from how fun it is to say the word "jagbags" to what's coming next as they start to head to Europe.

The live performance part of the set showcased how musically tight Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks are, while still providing that laid back, loose feel that one has come to expect from Malkmus through his solo work and of course his work with Pavement. Each song prominently featured melodic guitar work, including masterfully played guitar solos, with piano interspersed throughout. The vocal is relaxed, but Malkmus' voice never feels drowned out or lost.

During the interview portion, the band talked about recording their album in a small, isolated town in Belgium which Malkmus described as the Walla-Walla or Tri-cities of Belguim "if they had fast driving BMW's heading to Luxembourg." You can also hear about them working with Beck on their previous album and how it affected how they recorded Wig Out at Jagbags. Now that the tour is over, Malkmus and the Jicks will take a break for a few months before beginning a European tour in August.
