Last month, Killer Mike — hip hop star of Run The Jewels and Atlanta's Dungeon Family — sat down with Bernie Sanders — the junior United States Senator from Vermont and 2016 presidential candidate — for a candid conversation at Mike's barbershop, The SWAG Shop in Atlanta. Check out the full interview in the playlist above, via YouTube.

The interview was filmed on November 23rd, while Bernie was campaigning in Atlanta. Later that day, Killer Mike gave a powerful speech endorsing the Senator at a political rally. The speech nearly broke the internet, and, as H. A. Goodman of The Huffington Post wrote, may have "just helped Bernie Sanders win the White House in 2016."

For those who are unfamiliar with Senator Sanders' platform, this is a great introduction to his political career and ideology. This engaging conversation focuses on a range of topics over six YouTube videos, including social justice, income inequality, health care, gun control, the Black Lives Matter movement, the for-profit prison system, and the legal punishments for marijuana possession.

While Sanders is running for president as a Democrat, he was registered as an independent from 1979 to 2015. Killer Mike shares that he was asked by a conservative friend to push the fact that Senator Sanders could actually become the next president, and with that optimism, you can see how passionately Killer Mike supports Bernie's humanist platform and fits right into his "smart constituency."

At one point, Killer Mike expresses his comfort with Bernie in his use of "We" in his rhetoric. Senator Sanders explains his background marching with Dr. Martin Luther King at the historic 1963 "I Have A Dream" speech in Washington. Bernie shows his admiration for King's organizational skills and his ability to unite different groups of people. He goes on to shed some light on a history of the wealthy dividing different groups of people with prejudice and fear-mongering, just as we’ve seen recently in Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

When Mike shares that he finds new reasons to get angry every year and he wants to be as angry as Sanders, the Senator responds: "That's being human. If you see stuff that's bad and you don't respond with — what did King call it... — 'the urgency of the moment,' then you're not alive. So, don't lose that anger."

The Senator from Vermont further reminds us that when people go out to vote, Democracy wins.

Here's everything you need to register to vote, if you haven't done so already. For more information on Bernie Sanders' campaign and how to contribute, check out his official website:
